M Lagrézette Malbec

MY RATING:  8/10

IN A NUTSHELL:  A very pleasant wine, great value for money

ORIGIN: France (Sud-Ouest, Cahors)

VARIETALS: Malbec 85%, Merlot 15%

SAQ PRICE: $17.00

I tried this on a whim, and what a pleasant surprise it turned out to be! Right up there with Rasteau, this is a perfect Pizza Friday wine that you would not be embarrassed to bring to a friend’s casual dinner party. At first, it tastes of cherry, then a tingly ash flavour comes into play. Thirdly, as it moves to the back of the tongue, it has a slightly oaked finish and then just evaporates. Weird but true, I swear it has three distinct taste phases, just like that!
